Two types of suspension

Re-verification

Google removes your verified status. The profile and knowledge panel still show in search, but you cannot access or publish to it until you verify again.

Outright suspension

The profile and knowledge panel disappear from search entirely. Customers cannot see the business until the suspension is appealed successfully. Google emails you when this happens.

Why profiles get suspended

1. Changing important profile information

Google is sensitive to edits of core details and often forces re-verification. Avoid changing these unless necessary: business name, address (including removing an address to become a service area business), phone number, primary category.

2. Keyword stuffing

Your profile name must match your legal business name. Extra keywords invite suspension and make you an easy target for competitor reports.

  • Incorrect: Josh's HVAC LLC - Detroit Air Conditioning and Heating Contractor
  • Correct: Josh's HVAC LLC

Pro tip: keywords in the name genuinely help rankings, so consider a real rebrand or a registered DBA with the keyword-optimized name.

3. Address problems

  • P.O. boxes or virtual addresses
  • Co-working spaces
  • Home addresses
  • No visible signage outside
  • Another business at the same address

4. High-risk business types

Lawyers, plumbers, HVAC contractors, locksmiths, rehab centers and cannabis dispensaries are suspended more often because of abuse in those categories.

5. Other violations

  • Violating terms of service on another Google product
  • Creating duplicate listings for one business
  • Being an online-only business
