Step 1: Go to business.google.com

Search for your business to claim your listing. If someone has already claimed your business, you can request ownership of the profile. If your business does not appear in the search, click Add your business to Google to create the listing.

Step 2: Select your primary category

Choose the most accurate category from the start. Changing this later can force your profile back through verification.

Step 3: Physical location or service area

If you have a storefront, Google asks for your address. If you do not, you set a service area instead.

Tip: keep the service area within about 30 minutes' drive of the owner, and tighter if there is a physical location. A service area that is too large is one of the most common mistakes we see, and it leads to weak map results.

Step 4: Add your phone number and website

Enter the correct details up front. Changing the phone number later can trigger re-verification.

Step 5: Verification

Google decides which method you must use.

Video recording

  • Show nearby streets, street signs and landmarks to confirm the location.
  • Show your signage and storefront - service providers should show branded equipment and tools.
  • Show proof of management by accessing employee-only areas or items such as a register or POS system.

The video must be one continuous take with no edits.

Postcard by mail

  • Google mails a postcard with a code to your business address.
  • Enter the code in your profile to finish.

Live video call

  • Schedule the call, show your location, and demonstrate control of the business.

Phone or text

  • Google sends a code by call or text; enter it to verify.

Instant verification

If your website is already verified in Search Console under the same account, you may be verified instantly. Businesses managing 10 or more locations may qualify for bulk verification.
